Our Animals

A Sanctuary for Crete’s Living Heritage

At Thalori Farm, we preserve a world that has long since disappeared elsewhere. We provide a home for rare, local livestock breeds in their original habitat. Amidst the wild Asterousia Mountains, our animals live in a millennia-old symbiosis with nature. Here, it is not about yield, but about preserving biodiversity and appreciating every single creature that has shaped this rugged land for generations.

The Animal Residents of the Asterousia Mountains

Cretan Sheep & Goats

Our herds are the natural architects of the mountains. Through their grazing, they keep the ecosystem in balance and protect the region’s flora. They also provide us with the pure milk for our traditional cheese, which we still produce in our dairy today using ancient methods.

The Cretan Cow

We are actively committed to the protection of the original Cretan cattle breed. These animals are small, extremely robust, and perfectly adapted to the barren slopes. As a living heritage of the Minoan era, they are an indispensable part of our history and find the space they need to survive with us.

Living in the Rhythm of Nature

From the morning cackling of our chickens, pecking freely between the stone houses, to our loyal farm dogs – every animal has its fixed place in our community. Experience a daily routine shaped by mutual respect and enjoy the tranquility that our animals radiate.
